Castillon
is very well-known thanks to the famous battle which put
an end to the Hundred Years War in 1453. Today, the wines
of the Côtes de Castillon try to outdo their famous
neighbouring appellation, St Emilion, in reputation.
The
A.O.C Côtes de Castillon owes its name to the little
town of Castillon la Bataille in Gironde,
situated on the right bank of the Dordogne, 40 km away,
East of Bordeaux. Nine communes make up this A.O.C, which
was founded in 1955 and which spreads over about 2800 particularly
rich in limestones hectares. The production is mainly made
of red wines that people can drink even if they are still
too green. The appellation gathers 400 wine growers among
whom 240-such as Armand Burriel and his son Frédéric-
harvest, make into wine and raise their wines by themselves.
Main
vines : Merlot,

of the estate : Facing South, the vineyards of Claud Bellevue
Castle are cultivated on the high slopes of the Côtes
